Two Shootings Rock Marshall County

A shooting early Monday in the Potts Camp area and another at 10:40 p.m. the same day near Marshall Steak House resulted in two deaths and a number injured.

The shooting Monday night took the life of Cameron Namond Faulkner, 21, of Holly Springs. He was pronounced dead at Alliance Hospital in Holly Springs by Marshall County coroner James Richard Anderson.

Three were transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., according to Maj. Kelly McMillen, investigator with the sheriff’s department. One was transported by air and two were carried by ambulance.

Their ages were 21, 19 and 18, the major said.

One of the three is on life support, he said. One was treated and released and the third was still at the medical center Tuesday at press time.

McMillen said when deputies responded to the call of a vehicle accident in the 2200 block of Highway 178 they found three individuals inside the car who had been shot.

Further investigations revealed multiple gunshot holes in the back of the vehicle and on the driver’s side.

Twenty-nine spent shell casings were recovered from the middle of the road but no weapons were recovered. The car was impounded at the sheriff’s department to look for forensic evidence.

Investigators were called by the hospital when Faulkner arrived, he said.

Investigators are trying to link the shootings to the injured and deceased, McMillen said.

He urged anyone who has information regarding this incident to come forward and provide tips to law enforcement.

“I can’t overemphasize the importance of providing tips to investigators, because our young people are being killed by violence,” he said.

Tips can be provided anonymously to law enforcement by calling the sheriff’s department at 662- 252-1311 and asking to speak with the sheriff or any investigator.

A Potts Camp man died of a single gunshot wound to the chest in the early hours of Monday, according to Marshall County coroner James Richard Anderson.

The shooting took place around 3:30 a.m. at the home of the deceased in the 200 block of Betts Road.

Anderson pronounced 28-yearold Jeffrey Kane Sartin dead on the scene. An autopsy was ordered, Anderson said.

Maj. Kelly McMillen with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department said officers responded to the scene and found Sartin, who was living in the home of his father and step-mother and two small children, lying unresponsive on a sidewalk behind the house.

The gun believed to have been used in the incident was recovered, he said.

The case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.

McMillen said the case will be brought before the next grand jury for disposition.
