Two die in head-on

A head-on collision in the 1700 block of North Red Banks Road just north of Moore Road took the lives of two women, according to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

The accident took place Jan. 16 at about 6:23 a.m..

Dickerson said the two-vehicle accident involved entrapment.

Deputies and county fire department units responding to the accident discovered the two vehicles had been traveling in opposite directions, he said.

The first vehicle, a black Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound in the northbound lane while the second vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was traveling northbound in the northbound lane at the time of the accident, the sheriff said.

Drivers were identified as Shay Lynn Bass and Maria Rosa Lunares. Both were pronounced dead on the scene by Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson, Dickerson said.
