Tribute to Brownlee – ‘pillar of community’

One of the most well-liked guys in the Holly Springs and Red Banks communities lost his life Thursday morning of last week in an accident at the intersection of Highway 302 and Cayce Road.
He was known in the springtime as the strawberry man. Brooks Brownlee produced the sweet and delicious Chandler variety of strawberries, developed in California in 1982.
Operating as Brownlee Farms, the business initiated direct sales to the consumer in 2006 with a fall pumpkin crop, tree and shrub (nursery and landscaping) business, after being in the wholesale nursery business for years.
