Town of Byhalia purchases new fire truck

There’s a lot of new around the Byhalia Fire Department these days.

Brian Rodgers was hired as the new fire chief in May. And since then, the town has purchased a new chief’s vehicle and new fire truck.

“He came in with experience, and now he’s getting to experience even more as chief,” Mayor Phil Malone said about Rodgers. “He’s doing a fine job.”

Rodgers, 38, is no stranger to public service, working as a volunteer at the fire department for 10 years and employed in law enforcement 14 years, most of that in Byhalia. He has also worked for the ambulance service.

He said he developed the love for firefighting at a young age, when his father Terry Rodgers was involved in the start-up of the Barton Volunteer Fire Department.
