Tourism & Recreation donates to little league

The Holly Springs Tourism and Recreation Bureau has donated $2,713.50 to the Holly Springs Mustangs little league football team.

Tyrisha Battle, executive director of the Tourism Bureau said her organization is happy to step in and assist in funding “for this awesome team.”

Coach Mark Clark expressed deep appreciation to Tourism and to others who have helped keep the children on the fields.

He said Smith Brumley at the athletic house on Getwell Road in Memphis, Tenn., helped obtain uniforms and practice equipment along with two checks from Tourism that totaled over $2,600.

The tourism checks helped pay for referees and for outstanding bills for game equipment.

“We had no way to pay for that and we thank them because we need that,” Clark said.

“I want to say thank you to Ms. Battle and to the Tourism Bureau for helping pay for things we needed,” Clark said. “They came to me and said, Mr. Clark, what do you need? That meant a lot. Now we are not operating in the red ink.”

An anonymous donor gave $6,400 to help pay for game day jerseys and pants,” Clark said.

Some other donors included Mr Chic’s Barber Shop and Big Daddy’s Style Shop, both local businesses located on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Holly Springs. Other anonymous donors sponsored many children, and another sponsor helped pay half the league membership fee, Clark said.

A game has been added for September 10 and September 17 at the WEYA field on Breckenwood Drive.

Clark said one road trip is scheduled to West Helena, Ark., and the remainder of the games will be played at Breckenwood.
