Terry wins mayor's primary
District 1 Marshall County Supervisor Charles Terry handily won the Holly Springs primary election runoff Tuesday, April 22, against incumbent, one-term Mayor Sharon Gipson, according to unofficial election results.
With 1,462 votes cast Tuesday, Terry garnered 837 votes to Gipson's 604 votes, or 57 percent of the vote.
Unofficial contest totals came in at 1,462 votes cast in the runoff election vs.1,504 in the April 1 primary democratic race. Terry won 57.57 percent of the vote
Tuesday as compared with 41.54 percent taken by Gipson.
At the polls on election day, Terry scored 756 votes to Gipson's 430, but Gipson garnered 174 absentee votes to Terry's 81. There were 1,203 persons who voted in person, with 259 voting by absentee ballot.
Voter turnout was 26.16 percent of registered voters.
There are 5,589 registered voters in Holly Springs.

• Ward 1: Terry 113 votes, Gipson 110. Total registered voters in Ward 1 is 1,921.
• Ward 2: Gipson 201, Terry 170. Total registered voters 1,211.
• Ward 3: Terry 297, Gipson 118. Total registered voters 1,093.
• Ward 4: Terry 257, Gibson 175. Total registered voters 1,364.
The general election is set for Tuesday, June 3.
Terry faces contenders Rodney Lowe and Tim Liddy June 3. Other races on the general election ballot are: • Ward 1: Sandra Hodges vs. Kylon
Freeman. • Ward 2: incumbent Andre Jones
vs. LeKesha DeBerry and Lennell “Big Luke” Lucas.
• Ward 3: Jim Moore vs. Ricky Raimey Sr.
Patricia Merriweather was reelected as alderman of Ward 4, in the April 1 primary and Dexter Shipp was reelected as Alderman-at-Large.
