Teen dies in shooting
A 16-year-old died in a shooting incident Thursday, Jan. 16, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
He said members of the Marshall County Violent Crimes Task Force were dispatched to the Discount Smoke Center on South Memphis Street at 10:55 a.m. and found the shooting victim lying face up on the floor with numerous gunshot wounds to the chest area.
The teenager died as a result of his wounds. A suspect in the shooting was later identified and brought to the sheriff’s office by his father, the sheriff said.
The suspect, Martezz Montario Monger, 17, of Holly Springs, was charged with one count murder, he said. Bond was set Friday, Jan. 17 for $1 million by justice court judge Cathy Brittenum.
Also identified as a suspect is Marquay Monger, 20, of Holly Springs, who was taken in custody, Dickerson said. He has been charged with accessory after the fact of murder and with tampering with criminal evidence, the sheriff said. Bond was set Friday for $150,000 by judge Cathy Brittenum Assisting in this investigation were officers of the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, agents with the U.S. Marshals Service and with the ATF, and Holly Springs Police Chief Darryl Bowens.
A search was underway Friday at Duck Pond to locate and retrieve the murder weapon, Dickerson said.
