Team Waste sells

The owner of Team Waste has sold the company in its entirety to Waste Connections.

Team Waste had the contract to provide household garbage and rubbish/furniture pickup for both the City of Holly Springs and Marshall County.

The board of supervisors learned of the sale of the business, which includes Quad County Landfill, Monday, Feb. 7, at its regular board meeting.

Board attorney Amanda Whaley Smith said top management and most employees will be retained by Waste Connections.

“Wally Carter, the CEO of Team Waste, has also agreed to remain involved by serving Waste Connections as a consultant for the time being,” she said. “Very few changes are expected from this change in ownership. Waste Connections is expected to continue serving Marshall County in the same manner in which Team Waste always has.”

The contract with Marshall County for solid waste will remain the same.

Waste Connections of Mississippi has locations in Walnut and Booneville. Waste Connections of Tennessee has offices in Memphis, Tenn.

Smith said Waste Connections has had a contract with Marshall County for solid waste collection before.

Chancery clerk Chuck Thomas said the contract agreement with Team Waste was for six years with the option to request an extension of another four years. If approved, it would give the provider 10 years before the contract would have to be rebid.

The county receives a tipping fee per yard across the scale, Thomas said.

“As Team Waste began to grow, that tipping fee went from $6,000 a month to $25,000 a month,” he said.

That fee is expected to grow under Waste Connections contract, he said.

And there are 43 acres adjacent to the current landfill that can be opened up, if needed, he said.

The lifetime of a solid waste landfill site is about 30 years, Thomas said.

Waste Connections is a North American integrated waste services company that provides waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services, primarily of solid waste. It has operations in both the United States and Canada, and has headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas and Vaughan, Ontario.
