Take sirens seriously
The City of Holly Springs’ severe weather sirens are to be taken seriously – very seriously – each time they sound.
The sirens went off four times on a recent stormy night, December 17, and that’s because there were four different tornado warnings, according to fire chief Kenny Holbrook.
“Every time the sirens sound, that means we received another warning,” he said. “It’s indication of a tornado popping up nearby. The warnings are triggered by our first source, Code Red, and when the sirens go off, it means take cover immediately.”
Holbrook said on December 23, 2015, when the National Weather Service warned a tornado was on the ground and headed toward the city, the sirens were sounded continuously. Because of that, people were able to take cover and lives were saved when the twister hit the Holly Springs area.
