Suspect sought in shooting

A late afternoon shooting in the parking lot of Ree-Ree’s Country Store, at 2149 Wall Hill Road, sent one man to the hospital in Memphis, Tenn., according to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

He said 911 received a call about 5 p.m. July 8 that a man was shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim had been shot in the forehead. The victim was treated by medics at the scene and airlifted to Regional One Health Medical Center, where he remained recovering from his injuries Tuesday of this week.

The suspect had not been arrested as of Tuesday morning of this week.

The name of the suspect is being withheld pending serving of an arrest warrant, according to investigator Jason Mills with the sheriff’s department. A warrant for the suspect’s arrest is listed on NCIC (National Crime Information Center) to show he is wanted, Mills said.

The incident took place in the parking lot. The suspect and the victim passed words prior to the shooting with a 9mm handgun, he said.

“They had some words and the suspect walked up to the victim’s car,” Mills said. “The victim got out and was shot at close range.”

The projectile did not penetrate the victim’s skull, he said.

Anyone who has any information that may assist law enforcement in this case is asked to contact investigations at the sheriff’s department at 662-252-1311. Callers do not have to identify themselves when providing tips to investigators. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
