Steakhouse seeks resort status

A new, rustic Marshall County restaurant, visible from I-22 between the West Holly Springs and Red Banks exits, is scheduled to open this Friday.

Randall Swaney, owner of Marshall Steakhouse, wants to establish the business as an exciting venue where families can enjoy eating in or dining outdoors under the shade trees. There will also be fun activities for the children – a choo-choo train and a manmade Indian mound about 20 feet tall that kids can climb.

Swaney is seeking resort status so he can also serve spirits. State law does not allow the sale of liquor in the county without the special status.

Kent Smith, attorney for the board of supervisors, said there are steps that must be taken to get resort status. The board of supervisors agreed to allow the application process to proceed.
