Spreading Christmas cheer

Saturday, Dec. 17, the National Guard Armory was filled with Christmas cheer. Ninety families were able to come and fill their boxes with gifts for the children, food, clothing, and much more

North Mississippi Community Research Training and Development (NMCRTD) has been collecting toys, clothing, and home necessities for those who are less fortunate that were provided by Christmas Cheers Telethon, a toy drive, a food drive, community outreach programs, local churches, businesses, and merchants.

George Zinn III, Marshall County supervisor, is president of NMCRTD, a non-profit organization. “This is the 17th year for Christmas Cheers and we are excited to have it this year,” Zinn said.

“We have missed two years due to COVID,” said Willette Jeffries, NMCRTD public relations representative. “But we are very excited to put smiles on many faces this year.”

Cornelius Finley, assistant district manager, and Alexander Rucker, operations supervisor, of Team Waste, the local company that offers trash pickup and disposal for Holly Springs, were on hand to give out the bikes to local children.

“This is what it is all about,” Finley said. “We service Holly Springs and we want to give back to the community.”

Finley and Rucker picked out and put together the twenty bikes to give away.

“Team Waste does this (giveaway bikes) nationwide,” said Finley.

Grayson Funeral Homes, in Corinth, and Misha Milam, owner of TAFS Tax Service donated cash prizes. Jeffries thanks everyone who made this event possible. “We couldn’t have done it without the help from the community,” said Jeffries.
