Shooting investigated

A shooting outside Holly Market in Holly Springs June 4 is under investigation, according to assistant police chief Darryl Bowens.

The incident was reported at about 3:34 a.m. Regarding shots fired at the store located at 130 North Memphis Street in Holly Springs.

No suspects nor the name of the victim were made available at press time.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder area and traveled by privately owned vehicle to Methodist Hospital Olive Branch, Bowens said.

Bowens said surveillance tape was to be reviewed in an attempt to identify a suspect.

No shell casings were recovered at the scene at noon Monday. No witnesses have been identified.

Bowens asked anyone who has information regarding this incident to call the Holly Springs Police Department and speak to an investigator, or the police chiefs.

Stolen vehicles recovered Five stolen vehicles, some from the Memphis, Tenn., area were recovered in the Depot District near the old Compress property now owned by the City of Holly Springs, Bowens said.

Investigator T. Walker said the vehicles were either Infinity’s or Nissan’s.

Vehicles recovered included a twodoor white Infinity and a four-door Nissan Maxima, a brown, four-door Infinity and a blue, four-door Infinity, Walker said.

She said these two models are preferred by car thieves who gain entrance to the vehicle by breaking out the sunroof or back passenger windows. The vehicles can be cranked without an ignition key, she said.

Persons of interest are being sought locally.

Walker said the vehicles are stolen from the Memphis area then brought to Holly Springs and used to race through the streets of Holly Springs after dark.
