Sheriff investigates road rage shooting

Investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are investigating an apparent road rage shooting in the Barton area Wednesday evening, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

He said officers were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 309 and Highway 302 Wednesday evening around 9:20 p.m. to assist an individual who had been shot in an apparent road rage incident.

The victim was driving a white Nissan Sentra and the suspect’s vehicle was identified as a small black vehicle with unknown license plates. The shooter, who left two bullet holes in the victims Nissan, fled northbound on Highway 309 toward Tennessee, Dickerson said.

“We are asking the public to provide any information to assist our office in identifying a suspect,” Dickerson said.

The victim was airlifted to the Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

A search of the area turned up two shell casings, according to Maj. Kelly McMillen. The casings will be sent to the crime lab for forensic analysis, he said.
