School district honors Smith
The Marshall County School District central office celebrated Professional Administrators Week by honoring Betty Smith, who has served 23 years, starting in 1994 with the central office.
Smith, who lives in Waterford, began as a receptionist under superintendent Donnal Ash, learning on the job since she had always been a stay-at-home mom.
Smith said when the children grew up she needed something to do.
Over the years she has worn many hats, helping with transportation and as a secretary. Smith said she was willing to learn and to be trained.
Today she is knowledgeable about all departments, said superintendent Lela Hale.
