Runoff election next Tuesday

City of Holly Springs voters go to the polls next Tuesday, April 27, with three seats on the board of alderman up for grabs.

There will be a runoff for alderman at large, which is a city-wide vote, plus voters living in wards 3 and 4 will decide on their alderman for the next four years.

For alderman at-large, the runoff candidates are incumbent Tim Liddy and Dexter Shipp.

Seeking the Ward 3 position in the runoff are Karen M. Pigues and Colter Teel.

Runoff candidates in Ward 4 are Patricia LeSueur Merriweather and incumbent Christy Owens.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the runoff April 27. All voting on election day will take place at the Eddie L. Smith Multi-Pur pose Center.

Absentee voting is also available in the circuit clerk’s office, which is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. It will also be open this Saturday, April 24, from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. for absentee voting. The deadline to vote absentee in-person is Saturday at noon.

The General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8.

There will be two races decided on that date –mayor and alderman Ward 2.

Sharon Gipson, who won the Democratic Primary for mayor Aug ust 6, will face independent candidate Ki Jones on June 8.

Goston “Redd” Glover, the top vote-getter in the Ward 2 alderman race on the primary ballot April 6, will go against independent candidate Andre Jones June 8.

Residents of the city who are not yet registered to vote still have time to do so in order to participate in the June 8 General Election. The deadline is May 10. The clerk’s office will be open Saturday, May 8, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for voter registration for the municipal General Election.

Only one city government position is already decided. Ward 1 alderman Bernita Fountain had no opponent.
