Rotary addresses juvenile crime

Roy Ray visited the Marshall County Board of Supervisors recently to enlist its cooperation in a Rotary District 6800 initiative to reduce juvenile crime.

The goal is set to reduce juvenile crime by 50 percent in five years, he said.

Ray said Rotary International set a goal to eliminate polio many years ago and some big partners pitched in to help. As a result, there were only 21 cases of polio in the world last year (down from hundreds of thousands in the mid-1980s), and the mission is still ongoing to completely eradicate polio.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the country of Pakistan put up an enormous amount of money to help eradicate polio, he said. So when Rotary sets a goal, it intends to reach it.
