Recovery Committee wraps up teamwork, hands out ‘thank yous’
Community leaders and volunteers, and a few tornado victims who received new homes, gathered at Rust College to hear a summary report of the volunteer effort put together by the Marshall County Disaster Recovery Executive Committee.
About $2 million dollars in monetary donations, volunteer supplies, household appliances and furniture and other goods and services were gathered following the December 23, 2015, tornado to help families rebuild their lives and their living quarters. The donations helped cover the gap between what federal and state funds, loans and insurance did not cover to rebuild or repair damaged or destroyed homes.
Executive committee chair Bill Scott handed out plaques and certificates of appreciation, but first he spoke of the journey to recovery.
