Bank of Holly Springs

Police seek robbery suspect

A suspect in the Friday robbery at First State Bank is still at large.

The Holly Springs Police Department is not releasing the identity of the suspect because he is a juvenile.

“We are asking that friends and family members of this juvenile encourage him to turn himself in to authorities,” said police chief Dwight Harris.

On September 15, at 12:55 p.m., officers with the Holly Springs Police Department and Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to First State Bank on College Avenue in reference to a robbery.

Officers retrieved video of a suspect stealing approximately $3,200 from a cashier’s work area, Harris said. Investigators later identified the suspect as a juvenile.

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said he recognized the suspect and also knows the suspect’s mother who lives in a mobile home park in Hickory Flat.

The suspect left the bank and got into a waiting maroon Pontiac mini-van bearing Mississippi tag number MRT 333. The driver of the van has not been identified.

Dickerson and Maj. David Cook went to the mobile home where the suspect’s mother used to live in Hickory Flat and found the van believed to have been used in fleeing the bank. His mother lived several doors down but had once lived in that mobile home where the van was located, the sheriff said.

Chief Harris and his officers also came and assisted with the investigation at the mobile home park.

Dickerson also called Benton County Sheriff Arnie McMullen, who came to the mobile home park and they interviewed several individuals who knew the suspect, as well as the suspect’s mother.

“The suspect’s mother came to the mobile home and encouraged her son by telephone to surrender,” Dickerson said. “The grandmother, who lives in the Laws Hill area, and the mother were most cooperative with us in trying to get the suspect to surrender.”

Dickerson said the suspect turned off his cell phone and is currently on the lam.
