Police investigate break-in, robbery

Holly Springs police are seeking a suspect in the break-in of the Marathon gas station, plus two men who held up a cashier at Short Stop Grocery.

Marathon

Chief Dwight Harris said a suspect broke through the door of the Marathon station using a metal pipe and took two boxes of cigarettes around 3:30 a.m. January 31. This is the third recent break-in of the Marathon, he said.

The business is located at 165 East Van Dorn Avenue.

The prior break-ins at Marathon were December 25, 2018, and January 18. The January 18 break-in was unsuccessful while the one on December 25 resulted in the theft of cigarettes, according to the police department.

Short Stop

Two males, wearing black hoodies and red bandanas over their faces, entered Short Stop Grocery around 5:29 a.m. January

27. Both suspects displayed a gun, and they demanded cash from the register and the safe, Harris said. Short Stop is located at 295 North Memphis Street. On leaving the business, the two headed south on Memphis Street toward the Eddie Lee Smith Multi-Purpose Center, he said. An undetermined amount of cash was taken, the police chief said. Anyone with information on either of these crimes is urged to contact the Holly Springs Police Department at 662-252-2122. All information will be kept confidential.
