Plein Air Holly Springs returns Saturday

The Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery will host 30 plein air artists for the fourth annual Plein Air Holly Springs on Saturday, June 6. Following the artists’ day of painting the beautiful scenes available in Holly Springs there will be an Artists’ Reception at the Gallery with members and guests from the community.

Plein air comes from the French phrase “en plein air,” which translates literally to “in the open air.” In the art world, it refers to the act of painting an entire landscape or scene outdoors, directly from life, rather than working from a photograph or sketches inside a studio.

The Artists’ Reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. Following judging of the paintings. First, second, third place and honorable mention awards will be presented.

Gallery members and the community are invited to attend the reception to talk to the artists and view their representations they created of scenes of interest in Holly Springs. Additionally, visitors will have an opportunity to negotiate with artists to buy their paintings.

A generous buffet table and beverages will be provided by the Belles and Book Club, a group that supports the activities of the Gallery.

The admission for the reception: Members - $10 and Non-Members - $20.

Memberships will be available at the door.

Registration for artists opens at 8 a.m. Artists will have an opportunity to take an inspiring tour of the Gallery of Kate Freeman Clark plein air paintings. Painters will return to the Gallery by 3 p.m. Paintings will be displayed in a wing of the Gallery for a wet paint showing.

Upon registration, artists will be provided a box lunch and map of locations within the city and the county. Among the prime locations are The Depot, Courthouse Square, grounds of Walter Place, Wall Doxey State Park, Kirkwood National Golf Course. Guides may be available to assist artists in finding their selected site. Entry fee is $25 that can be paid at registration.
