Officers arrest fugitive
An warrant for the arrest February 23 for a Wisconsin fugitive led to the arrest of a suspect charged with child sex crimes in Marshall County Thursday, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
He said agents with the U.S. Marshal Service Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, DeSoto County deputies, and Byhalia Police officers assisted in the apprehension and arrest of the suspect Thursday.
Robert Gower, 34, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, was being sought in connection with two counts of child sex crimes in Sauk County, Wisconsin, Dickerson said.
U.S. Marshals learned the suspect was driving a vehicle described in connection with the investigation was spotted by DeSoto County deputies traveling north on I-269 at 9:40 a.m. Thursday. As the driver approached I-22, DeSoto County deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop at which time Gower fled pursuit at speeds reaching 95 mph, the sheriff said.
As Gower approached the Byhalia exit, he crossed over the median and began traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-22.
“DeSoto County deputies were able to safely continue pursuit of Gower for approximately one-quarter mile east of Byhalia, where he exited I-22 and fled on foot into a wooded area,” Dickerson said. “Marshall County deputies, officers with the Byhalia Police Department and U.S. Marshals spotted Gower jumping a fence behind ABB Warehouse on Stonewall Road where Gower was quickly taken into custody without incident.”
Gower was taken to DeSoto County Jail for processing due to additional charges stemming from the pursuit, the sheriff said. Dickerson thanked all agencies assisting the apprehension and arrest of the fugitive.
Dickerson said about 12 deputies from Marshall County and 12 from DeSoto County assisted in apprehension of the suspect, between 10 to 15 agents with the U.S. Marshals and officers with the Byhalia Police Department assisted in the apprehension arrest of Glower.
Dickerson thanked all agencies assisting in the arrest.
Suspects charged in Armed Robbery Three subjects have been arrested and charged in connection with the armed robbery of Cayce Food Mart and Service Station Saturday, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
Deputies were called to the scene at around 6 p.m. To 5805 Highway 178 West at the BP Station on the left just past Cayce Road, he said.
Two male subjects entered the store wearing masks, one with a firearm, and demanded money from the teller at the cash register, he said.
The subjects got several hundred dollars in cash and fled on foot. DeSoto County’s K-9 officer and handler assisted Marshall County officers in the search for the subjects.
Acting on a tip, the subjects were tracked to a residence in the 100 block of French Road by the K-9 officer, handler and Marshall County deputies.
Dickerson said the homeowner gave officers permission to search the home at that location and found an amount of money and two handguns and clothing worn by one of the subjects.
Three subjects were arrested at the house, taken into custody by Marshall County officers and taken to the Marshall County Jail.
Two of the subjects were charged with armed robbery and one was charged with accessory after the fact of armed robbery, the sheriff said.
Tyrese Brunson, 26, of Zinn Drive, Byhalia and Jamarius Latrell Jones, 18, of the French Road address were each charged with armed robbery.
A 16-year-old, was charged as an adult with accessory after the fact,” the sheriff said. The juvenile also gave a French Road address.
All three suspects made initial appearances before Justice Court Judge Mae Garrison Monday, April 20.
Bonds for the two adults was set at $20,000 each and the bond of the juvenile was set at $15,000, Dickerson said.
