No bond for robbery suspects

Two armed robbery suspects made an initial appearance in municipal court Thursday before Judge Amanda Smith, and they are being held without bond.

Randy Ranoy Readus, 34, and Julius Alexander Black, 30, both of Memphis, Tenn., are charged with the armed robbery of the Holly Springs Walmart on January 6, according to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

Judge Smith read the two suspects their Miranda rights, also saying these are very serious charges.

She set a preliminary hearing for February 4 in municipal court, a date that can be changed to later if the men are represented by an attorney who requests postponing the hearing, she said.

City prosecutor Amery Ewing Moore said the suspects are charged with 13 different crimes in various locations, an ongoing issue, and crossed state lines. She said the crimes were of a violent nature, and the men are considered a flight risk and a danger to the community.

Smith did not set bond because of recommendation from Moore and Maj. Kelly McMillen with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

McMillen said the New Albany Police Department is also planning to charge the two with armed robbery of the Walmart in that nearby city.

Agents with the FBI were transporting the two suspects back to Memphis, Tenn., McMillen said.

Money taken from the Holly Springs Walmart was deter- mined to be about $10,000, Smith said. Holly Springs may add charges of conspiracy, the judge said. The suspects were arrested at Circle K across from Huddle House on Craft Street Tuesday, Jan. 12, when federal agents rammed their Cadillac Escalade. They were taken without incident to the Marshall County jail for booking and later moved to Memphis.
