Murder suspect arrested

A suspect is in jail after a Friday evening homicide in the Warsaw community, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

He said suspect Anthony Terrell Tuggles, 37, of a 6500 Highway 4 West address, is charged with murder in the shooting death of Kendrick Denzel Newsom, 25, who was inside a Kenworth tractor truck rig.

The suspect is believed to have shot several rounds from an assault rifle into the sleeping area of the truck, the sheriff said. Newsom was in the driver’s seat and hit by the gunfire.

Tuggles was picked up a short time following the shooting at his grandfather’s residence near Highway 309 South and Highway 4, Dickerson said.

Dispatch received a call regarding the shooting around 7:40 p.m. March 19.

Law enforcement and medical personnel arrived at 65 Coffelt Cove in the Warsaw area and found the body of the deceased.

Numerous bullets penetrated through the sleeper area and went into the cab of the truck, Dickerson said. An assault rifle and handgun have been recovered.

A witness provided information about the suspect’s whereabouts, and he was arrested without incident, the sheriff said.

Tuggles was arraigned Monday morning at the Marshall County Justice Court complex and bond was set at $1 million by Justice Court Judge Cathy Brittenum, Dickerson said.

A female was also inside the truck, which led to a second charge, attempted murder, against Tuggles in the case, according to Maj. Kelly McMillen with the sheriff’s department.

Dickerson, McMillen and investigators Charles Powell and Perry Pipkins worked the investigation over the weekend.

“It is a very tragic incident and we continue to investigate the shooting,” Sheriff Dickerson said.
