Murder suspect arrested

A suspect in the murder of Robert Ellis, 56, has been taken into custody by agents with the Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force of the U.S. Marshal Service, Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said.

Ellis, of a Cayce Road address, was shot and killed August 29 in the 500 block of French Road in the Byhalia area. One other person was shot in the incident and transported to the hospital.

An arrest warrant for Treldrick Duncan, 25, of the 600 block of French Road, was issued by justice court judge Mae Garrison, according to Maj. Kelly McMillen with investigations.

Duncan, charged with murder in the shooting of Ellis, is being held in Memphis, Tenn., awaiting extradition proceedings back to Marshall County, McMillen said.

In a separate incident, investigators have identified an adult and two juvenile suspects in a residential burglary in the 5100 block of Higdon Road. The burglary was reported to dispatch at 5 p.m. September 10.

During the investigation deputies located a stolen weapon, a 40 caliber handgun, taken from the residence, Dickerson said. The handgun was recovered as the only item taken in the burglary, he said.

The sheriff credits tips from the public who report suspicious vehicles or individuals in their neighborhoods to investigators. All tips remain strictly anonymous, he said.

Rewards are offered to individuals providing tips that lead to the identification, arrest and conviction of suspects in a criminal act.

Call the sheriff’s department at 662-252-1311 and ask to speak with investigators or Sheriff Dickerson when seeing something suspicious taking place in the community.
