Municipal elections June 8

Municipal elections are less than a month away.

Voters in Potts Camp, Byhalia and Holly Springs will go to the polls Tuesday, June 8.

Absentee voting is now available in all three municipalities during regular business hours. Also, the offices will be open the two Saturdays before the election ­ May 29 and June 5 ­ from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for absentee voting. The deadline to vote absentee is June 5 at 12 noon.

In Potts Camp, incumbent mayor Herbert Luther has three opponents ­ David Pannell, Sidney Person III and Angela Williams.

Running for five alderman positions are 12 candidates ­ incumbent Annie Allen, Michael Brown, Lee Evans, Denise Cook Garrison, Kevin Houston, Casey Mayer, incumbent Deb McCullough, Christopher Porter, incumbent Dollean Porter, incumbent Sabrina Porter, Dean Tindall and incumbent Johnny Westmoreland. The five receiving the most votes will be elected.

In Byhalia, the mayor's race features William T. "Bill" Dawson Jr. versus incumbent Phil Malone.

There are nine candidates for alderman in Byhalia, and the top five vote-getters will be elected. Candidates are Denise Anglin, William Kelly Crain, incumbent Frederick "Rick" A. DeBardeleben IV, incumbent Michael E. "Mike" Hamblin, Vera "Lynn" JiJaga, Toni Mayes-Moore, incumbent Delainer Richmond, incumbent William Rose and incumbent Joe Louis Tunstall.

In Holly Springs, candidates for mayor in the June 8 election are Sharon Gipson and Ki Jones.

Candidates for alderman Ward 2 are Goston "Redd" Glover and Andre Jones.

Other aldermen positions in Holly Springs will also be placed on the General Election ballot, even though they have already been decided.

Those are alderman atlarge, Dexter Shipp; Ward 1, incumbent Bernita Fountain Ward 3, Colter Teel; and Ward 4, Patricia LeSueur Merriweather.

In Potts Camp, Byhalia and Holly Springs, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day Tuesday, June 8.

Newly-elected officials in all three municipalities will take office July 1. They will serve four-year terms.
