Medic Station #1 plan ready

William Mills, with Mills and Mills Architects, said he is ready to advertise for bids for a contractor to build Medic Station #1, located behind the old jail off Eddie Lee Smith Drive.

“We have the plans ready,” said Simpson Stroupe, with Marshall County buildings and grounds.

The design is completed and project will be advertised for a contractor.

County administrator Tim Powell said the design is complete but the county will brick up the bottom three or four feet in the front.

“Three feet or so,” Mills said, “so we don't interrupt the windows.” District 2 supervisor Johnny Walker said he doesn't want the project “to cost a bunch to get it put in.” District 5 supervisor Ronnie O'Neil Bennett asked about flooring that is to be replaced in the tax assessor's office.

Stroupe said work will be scheduled for a weekend as soon as the contractor is able to do it.

The furniture and computer networks will have to be disconnected by Terry Byrd, the county's IT director, then the flooring will be prepped and laid on a Sunday and the furniture and computers will be put back in order on the Monday afterward.

Circuit clerk Monet Autry presented a couple of items. She asked for travel to attend the summer convention the entire week of July 9. She will be working, but not in the county, she said.

She said prospective candidates for election of supervisor for District 3 are picking up packets. One person has qualified, she said.

Terry Rodgers is currently serving in that district after being appointed to fill the vacancy when Keith Taylor resigned.

The deadline for qualifying for the Tuesday, November 4 election is September 5, she said.

Autry said there is some redistricting going on in the area, but it does not involve Marshall County, but does involve DeSoto County.

Justin Hall, executive director of the Marshall County Industrial Development Authority, presented qualifying industries for Freeport warehouse tax exemptions.

TK Electronics, Niagara Bottling and Milwaukee Tool were approved by the board of supervisors for exemption on personal property and equipment.

Tax accessor Barbara Belfoure reported the state auditor will perform and audit on the tax accessor’s and collector’s offices in June.

Her office is close to completing the land and property tax rolls to be adopted this summer.

She presented several properties requiring board action.

In supervisor’s reports, Walker asked for no parking signs to be put up on Rosseville Road where people are parking their vehicles out in the road where four new homes were built.

District 1 supervisor Charles Terry asked for and received a motion to repair a driveway that is washing down into the county road at 241 Cayce Road.

District 4 supervisor George Zinn III asked that a problem with water coming down a hill at an address on St. Paul Road be corrected.
