MDOT reports icy conditions in many counties Tuesday

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) reported ice on roads and bridges in multiple counties in north and central Mississippi on Tuesday morning. MDOT crews were working to place salt and slag on the affected roads and bridges to make them passable.

Ice was reported in the following counties Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Choctaw, Claiborne, Coahoma, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winston, Yalobusha and Yazoo.

MDOT encourages the traveling public to pay close attention to weather and travel advisories issued by the National Weather Service, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and local law enforcement.

MDOT did not anticipate any road or bridge closures due to winter weather as of Tuesday morning. MDOT's number one priority is the safety of the traveling public, and using safe driving techniques is one way to ensure you "survive your drive" during winter weather. Atop the list buckle up and slow down.
