Marshall Countians help hurricane victims
Having witnessed three hurricanes while living in or visiting south Florida, Ricky Butler knows firsthand the devastation one can cause.
When Hurricane Harvey flooded and destroyed so many homes and businesses in Texas, he knew he had to help. He began a campaign to gather supplies and volunteers from the Byhalia area.
On the afternoon of September 1, he and seven others left with an 18-wheeler filled with donations of water, nonperishable food, diapers, cleaning supplies, blankets, pet food, and a variety of other essential supplies for the families of Beaumont, Texas. He would meet up with Jimbo Dalton, Bill Watson and Bob Moffett who had already been in Texas for several days doing rescues and handing out food and other necessities. They also took three pickup trucks and three boats.
