Man charged posing as a police officer
A Holly Springs resident has been arrested and charged with four counts of impersonating a police officer, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
Reports surfaced last week that people were being stopped by a white vehicle with blue lights under the visors. The person was described as wearing a skull cap, tall and thin and wearing a long sleeve black shirt with the word police written across the chest, according to the sheriff’s website.
Dickerson said through piecing together bits and pieces of information and tips, a person of interest was identified when he attempted to stop someone at a local store Thursday night. The potential victim went inside the store and the subject followed the potential victim inside the store where surveillance technology picked up the image of a person of interest.
The suspect voluntarily turned himself in to the sheriff’s department at 8 a.m. Friday, March 1, the sheriff said.
Jaderius E. Hubbard, 19, of the 100 block of South East Boundary, lot 13, drove himself to the sheriff’s department in a white Lincoln passenger car, Dickerson said.
He said the Lincoln was equipped with blue lights and the t-shirt with the word police written on it was also recovered from the vehicle.
Hubbard was charged with four counts of impersonating a police officer, a misdemeanor, after booking at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Dickerson said.
Hubbard appeared before justice court judge Mae Garrison and bond was set at $2,000, the sheriff said.
Investigator Perry Pipkin and other officers worked on this investigation, Dickerson said.
