Lineman recovering at Regional One
The Holly Springs community is reaching out to support lineman Maurice Jeffries, who was injured while working overhead in the Canaan Road/Highway 72 area in Benton County Friday, December 19, according to Mayor Charles Terry.
He said Jeffries, 38, has been working with the Holly Springs Utility Department for about eight years.
“There was an issue the night before, wind damage,” Terry said.
A tree fell on a line and at least one utility pole was broken as well as a line down, Terry said.
“He was attempting to resplice a wire overhead and didn’t know it was energized,” the mayor said.
“There was a groundsman and other HSUD employees in the area and they initiated a bucket rescue.” A first responder and nurse, who were in the area searching for their dog, assisted with CPR, Terry said.
Jeffries was airlifted to the Regional One Medical Center.
Terry said Jeffries has burns on his hands and is still at The Med being treated for injuries and undergoing medical procedures.
Employees and the mayor went to The Med to support Jeffries and his family Friday night, Terry said.
“It’s an unfortunate time of year,” Terry said. “We’re all reaching out and showing support and prayers to him and his family.”
Jeffries had surgery Friday night.
