Dr. Carrie Skelton

Lawson retiring; Skelton selected as replacement

Roy Lawson, Marshall County School District superintendent of education, has announced his retirement effective June 30.

He has served as superintendent since January 2020.

The Marshall County School Board announces Dr. Carrie Skelton as the new superintendent of education effective July 1.

“The process of selecting a new superintendent is one of the most important duties of a board member and each of our members treated it that way,” said Mark Turner, school board president.

“As we started to look at the qualities, we wanted our new superintendent to have, we realized that we had that person already.”

Dr. Skelton has been a part of the district for the past 20 years and in a leadership position for the past 12 years. For the past two and half years, she has been the assistant superintendent over curriculum and instruction.

Dr. Skelton is currently participating in the Mississippi School Board Association Superintendent’s Academy.

Turner said she has the support of the school board, and the faculty and staff of Marshall County Schools as they continue to move the district toward the ultimate goal of becoming an “A” level district.

“We look forward to Dr. Skelton’s leadership and to working with her to set goals to move our district forward,” Turner said.
