Landmark store closes at Cayce
The Little Place, an over 100-year-old business in Marshall County, recently closed its doors.
Owner Wilma Elizabeth Meggs said the country store at 3956 Cayce Road has been her bread and butter the last 25 years.
Also known as Wilma’s, the Old Carrington Store and Brooks Store, the Little Place was once a thriving crossroads in the community. The cotton gin associated with the store has been torn town for 21 years.
“It was where everybody bought everything they needed,” Meggs said. “There were so many who ran it over the years before my husband and I (the late Jerry Meggs), bought it.”
Jerry Meggs died in 1994, leaving the Little Store in good hands.
