Khava returns for visit

The family of Samuel Smith returned to Holly Springs last week to visit with Sheriff Kenny Dickerson and his officers. They brought Khava, their deceased son Samuel Smith’s 2-year-old puppy, who was miraculously rescued after Samuel’s body was found in Chewalla Lake July 29. Khava, who was missing, was found on I-55 by a passerby, taken to a veterinarian for treatment, and was returned about three weeks later to the Smith family after he was identified from posts on Facebook. Following her return to Florida with the Smiths, Khava underwent surgery for a broken bone and is making a full recovery. From left are Stacey Richmond, Yolanda Jones, Beth and Dale Smith, and Khava and Sheriff Dickerson.
