Juvenile arrested in shooting

A 17-year-old male was arrested in connection with a shooting in the Meadows, according to Holly Springs Police Chief Grant Glover.

The shooting took place Aug. 26 at 1 a.m. in the 100 block of Randall Drive, he said.

The suspect, from the Williams Road area off Highway 7 North near the laundromat, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and with attempted murder and has bonded out, Glover said.

The victim, a 41-year-old male, gave the suspect a ride from a location in the 600 block area of Craft Street to the Meadows, where the two men got out of the vehicle, then the victim was struck in the wrist with a projectile. The bullet passed through the victim’s wrist and struck his face, Glover said. He was transported by ambulance to the Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., where he was treated and later discharged.

Investigators later found several spent rounds from an AR-style rifle on the grass near the incident, the chief said. Projectiles struck the mail box and shattered the glass in the victim’s vehicle.

The victim said he heard as many as three shots at the time of the incident, Glover said.

The suspect turned himself in to officers at the Holly Springs Police Department Sept. 2, the chief said.
