Antoine Adams

Jail escapee caught in Houston

Antoine Adams, who escaped from the Marshall County jail November 5, was arrested in Houston, Texas, last week, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

He escaped while awaiting adjudication on a murder charge in Marshall County in which a man’s body was found by farmers on a rural gravel road in the Slayden area in December 2016.

Dickerson said Adams was arrested by police in the Houston area and charged with shoplifting at a Walmart.

“After arrest, he was found to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia,” Dickerson said.

Adams gave a false name following his arrest, but electronic fingerprinting identified him as being wanted on a murder charge in Marshall County, he said. Adams is also facing charges on two warrants for murder issued by the Memphis, Tenn., Police Department, according to the sheriff.

Dickerson said Adams is under $40,000 bond in Houston and if he makes bond, Memphis and Marshall County authorities will be notified and stand ready to take him into custody and bring him back here.

“I think it will be a lengthy time before Memphis and Marshall County get him back here,” Dickerson said. “I don’t anticipate him making bond anytime soon.”

Adams was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Houston a few weeks before he broke out of the Marshall County jail.

“I, along with many other officers and agencies, am glad to hear he’s off the street, because he’s a very dangerous individual and obviously has little value for human life,” Dickerson said.
