Ida B.Wells Social Justice Weekend July 12-15

The first Ida B. Wells-Barnett Social Justice Weekend, hosted by the City of Holly Springs, is set for July 12-15.

The occasion is garnering a lot of support from Rust College and the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum. Events will be staged at the college and at the Eddie Lee Smith Multi-Purpose Building.

Mayor Kelvin Buck said the city has not capitalized on the civil rights, human rights and anti-lynching hero born here in Holly Springs. She is recognized all over the world but least in her hometown.

Charles Williams, associate vice president and director of office of institutional research at Rust College, said Rust president David Beckley and the mayor see the need to enhance what Leona Harris is doing at the museum and in celebrating Ida B. Wells’ birthday. So a four-day weekend of activities is planned.
