Hollingsworth Byhalia’s newly elected mayor

Don Hollingsworth won the Byhalia mayoral special election on Tuesday, March 19.

Susan Bonds, chairman of the Byhalia Election Committee, said Don Hollingsworth had a total of 105 votes to Daylon Cannon 66.

Former mayor Debbie Weathers resigned at the December 19, 2024, board meeting.

Hollingsworth has been a resident of Byhalia for 43 years and is the owner of Hollingsworth Land Surveying.

“I saw my town going in the wrong direction and I

want to get it straighten out,” Hollingsworth said. “I didn’t need the money; I didn’t need the insurance or retirement. What motivated me is I felt like the town needed it.”

Hollingsworth said he has 38 years working in government.

“The budget started October 1, 2023. Nothing has been posted, and this is the end of March. They don’t even have a budget report,” Hollingsworth said.

He said he would run the city “strictly by the book.”

Hollingsworth is a graduate of the University of Memphis and the former president of the Mississippi Natural Gas Association, Tennessee Gas Pipeline Small Service Group and the Byhalia Lions Club.
