First action of new board - appointments

At the first meeting of the Mayor Charles Terry administration in Holly Springs, July 1, a nearly two hour executive session was conducted immediately after opening the meeting where prospective candidates for appointments were shuffled in and out of the executive boardroom for interviews.

The first business of the mayor and board of aldermen was to make city appointments. There was an overhaul of Municipal Court appointments and some changes in other departments.

Former Holly Springs Police Chief Grant Glover was appointed as chief of police. Glover has served also in the Marshall County Sheriff’s office, most recently acting as bailiff at Marshall County Justice Court. He began his law enforcement career at the Holly Springs Police Department.

Glover replaces police chief Darryl Bowens who was appointed to the rank of lieutenant.

Bowens is a career officer at the Holly Springs Police Department.

Attorney John Keith Perry Jr. was reappointed as city attorney. He has served one term as city attorney under the Mayor Sharon Gipson administration.

Johnathan Woods was transferred from full-time to part-time at the Holly Springs Fire Department.

There was a sea change in court appointments.

Municipal Court appointments included Ki Jones as city judge, replacing Cornelia Fondren, who served one term under the mayor Sharon Gipson administration.

Jones has served the city in the past as city attorney under former mayor Andre DeBerry.

Holly Springs attorney Shirley Byers was appointed city prosecutor. Byers has served the city as board attorney under the mayor Kelvin Buck administration and currently serves as the Marshall County prosecutor.

Holly Springs attorney Lori Shaw was reappointed public defender, who served several years under the recent Sharon Gipson administration.

The board passed a motion requested by mayor Terry to place all City and HSUD employees on a six month or less probation, pending review.

The board also unanimously approved motions to audit the City of Holly Springs and the Holly Springs Utility Department.
