Drive-by shooting probed in city

Holly Springs Police are investigating a drive-by shooting at mid-night Jan. 6 in the South Chesterman Street area, according to chief Grant Glover.

Officers responded to a call at 12:05 a.m. To the 100 block of South Chesterman regarding shooting into a residence, the chief said.

Eight people were asleep in the house at the time.

About six projectiles were recovered from inside the residence and about 10 were found outside the residence, he said. The projectiles were from a high-powered assault rifle type weapon, he said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Glover asks anyone with information regarding the vehicle used in the drive-by or any other information that will be helpful in this or any other incident to come forward. Tips can be left confidentially by calling 662-2522122 and asking to speak directly to Glover or assistant chief Darryl Bowens.

Charges upgraded

Charges against Chris Lawson, 51, a suspect in a shooting in front of Holly Market Dec. 16, have been upgraded from negligent manslaughter to first degree murder, Glover said.

The victim, 39-year-old Darius Mitchell from the Shadow Lane area, died at the scene of the shooting.

Glover said Lawson bonded out at $200,000.
