Downtown gunfire remains under investigation

A burst of semi-automatic gunfire Thursday, May 11 at about 5 p.m. In downtown Holly Springs remains under investigation, according to police chief Grant Glover.

Eleven spent shell casings were recovered from the street after the incident, the chief said.

The incident took place at the corner of South Center Street and Gholson Avenue in the intersection at the Marshall County Library.

The gunfire was heard inside the Marshall County Courthouse, according to chancery clerk Nicole Phelps.

People in the area of South Memphis Street near Coffee in Holly also reported hearing the shots.

Glover said there is no evidence thus far that anyone was being shot at. The gunfire appeared to have been from a passing vehicle, he said.

He said the incident could have been gunplay.

The incident remains under investigation, the chief said.
