County UNCF reaches goal

With over $42,000 already collected and additional contributions of $7,000 and $16,000, respectively, from Tupelo and Columbus branches of the UNCF, the Holly Springs/Marshall County UNCF is expected to surpass its 2017 fund-raising goal of $60,000.

Dr. David L. Beckley, president of Rust College, made the announcement during the 27th annual Holly Springs/Marshall County UNCF banquet Friday, Feb. 10, on the Rust campus.

The guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Orr, pastor of Brown Missionary Baptist Church in Southaven, spoke about “The Power of One.”

Using biblical metaphors, Orr began his speech with a Scripture from Jeremiah chapter 5, and elaborated on how Jeremiah was sent by God to find just one faithful, honest person. Orr used this same illustration to encourage audience members to be that one who is “bold enough to change.”
