Constable Perkins airs issues with board

A recent boardroom discussion about the possible need for a third justice court district in Marshall County spilled over onto the constables and their duties.

Constable Michael Perkins, of the Northern Judicial District, spoke to the issues supervisors aired concerning constables not serving papers and as bailiffs in justice court.

Perkins said in the last two years justice court issued 3,043 notices in civil cases. He served 2,600 of those, he said.

Perkins is taking overflow from the Southern Judicial District. He may be given 25 papers to serve five days before the next court date. He said he often spends long hours serving papers after dark.
