Complete cast-iron replacement, Presley says
The long-overdue completion of the cast-iron gas line replacement project in Holly Springs should be completed quickly, said Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley.
He met with the Holly Springs mayor and board of aldermen November 1 to encourage the city to get the job done quickly so it can be poised to offer natural gas to commercial customers.
The city was notified nearly 10 years ago by federal regulators that all cast-iron gas lines must be phased out and replaced with more modern plastic pipes.
Presley said Holly Springs has 31 miles of cast-iron gas lines to be replaced out of the total remaining in the state of only 41 miles. That means that the city is one of the last municipalities in the state that has not taken action.
