City sets activities for October

The City of Holly Springs has scheduled a number of activities for October that will stoke the community spirit.

The Holly Springs Board of Aldermen passed resolutions to celebrate the full month of October as Paint The Town Pink in coordination with the Marshall County American Cancer Society’s Fight for the Cure.

Pink bows and ribbons will adorn doorways and pink bows will be used to raise funds for the fight.

Also, Holly Springs will celebrate Operation Beautification from Oct. 13 through Oct. 28.

The community is encouraged to get out and clean up properties and pick up trash along with the city’s efforts to Team Up To Clean Up.

The month ends with Trunk or Treat, Oct. 31, where the city celebrates Halloween together.

The Town and Country Garden Club is also promoting environmental awareness with its program “Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute,” which involves working with all four elementary schools and Smoky The Bear.

The town also celebrates Fire Safety Week Oct. 8 through Oct. 14.

The annual Halloween Trunk or Treat celebration begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 31 in downtown for very small children and at 5 p.m. for older children, according to Pam Zelman, executive director of the Holly Springs Main Street Chamber. The celebration takes place at participating businesses around the downtown from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Zelman also announced Holiday Open House on the downtown square Nov. 9. The event promotes local shopping during the holidays.

The Holly Springs Christmas Parade is set for Sat. Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.

Zelman asked the city to participate with floats, including those with police and fire departments.

She also asked the mayor and board of aldermen to reconsider funding the Main Street Chamber.

“We always, always want city support,” she said.

In other business at the Oct. 3 meeting, the Board of Aldermen:

• authorized travel for Rodney Crane, Shane Wommack, Kevin White and Leron Weeks to attend the 2023 Mid-Winter Emergency Management Conference in November.
