The City of Holly Springs applied for a Mississippi Forestry Commission grant to inventory and care for trees in the city.
The grant is a dollar for dollar match, with the Forestry Commission, up to $20,000.
Matt Copley, with Fulgham’s Inc., said people are drawn to trees for a sense of community and places that have good trees along streets and thoroughfares experience lower crime rates.
Trees soak up rain water, produce shade and purify the air. Property values are enhanced.
