Byhalia United Methodist opens 24-7 prayer room

Byhalia United Methodist Church is hosting an around-the-clock prayer room for those who would participate in a continuous prayer chain from March 1 through Easter.

People are encouraged to sign up online for a one-hour spot on the calendar, according to Pastor Stephen Bittick.

Around-the-clock prayer is not a new idea for Christians.

“Continuous prayer in one location is not necessarily a new idea,” Bittick said, “possibly, not even to the community of Byhalia. Over the centuries, seasons of great revivals in North America and Europe were preceded by long periods of continual prayer.”

John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, is said to have been converted in 1738 after an encounter with Moravians.
