Byhalia alderman and husband arrested

An alarm that sounded off at the residence of Byhalia Alderman Delainer Richmond drew officers with the police department to respond to the Richmond residence on Katie Lane in Byhalia, according to a press release from the press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Press secretary Bailey Martin said the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics initially responded to a call to assist the Byhalia Police Department at the Katie Lane residence to execute a search warrant.

Upon arrival, agents and officers located nine marijuana plants, methamphetamine, three fire arms, a large amount of ammunition and various forms of manufacturing paraphernalia, according to the press release.

Curtis Richmond, 49, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, manufacturing marijuana and with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond was set at $7,500.

Alderman Richmond, 50, was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and manufacturing marijuana, according to the press release. Her bond was set at $5,000.

The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics is working on this case together with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), who will potentially pursue federal charges against Curtis Richmond, according to the press release.

Additional arrests are anticipated, but due to this being an open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made at this time, said press secretary Bailey C. Martin with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

At the time of the execution of the search warrant, the Richmond’s were at a meeting of the Mississippi Municipal League along with other elected officials from the Town of Byhalia, according to sources

Curtis Richmond was served a warrant for arrest Thursday on an old indictment in Marshall County Circuit Court, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

He said the indictment was on charges of sexual battery. Richmond’s bond on this charge was also set at $7,500, the sheriff said.
