Burglary investigation

• Five arrested

A tip led to the execution of a search warrant Friday, and the result was the arrest of five suspects in a burglary operation, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

The five were charged in justice court Monday and bond was set, he said.

Investigators believe that the burglarized items were being traded for illegal drugs, according to Maj. Kelly McMillen.

Items recovered at the Tunstall Valley Cove address in Byhalia included three compound bows, eight long guns, five televisions, a carburetor, an injector set for race cars, Wii games, scopes, several pistols, stereo equipment and a camera system, he said.

Those arrested, according to Dickerson, include:

• David Vernon Martin Jr., 34, of the 1600 block of Loanoke Road, Potts Camp, charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

• Danny Marcel Turner, 46, of the 100 block of Burton Road, Holly Springs, charged with burglary.

• Richard Freeze, 48, of the 100 block of Burton Road in Holly Springs, charged with burglary.

• William Edward Jones, 40, of the 60 block of Tunstall Valley Cove, Byhalia, charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

• Cynthia D. Freeze, of the 100 block of Burton Road, Holly Springs, charged with accessory after the fact of burglary.

Judge Mae Garrison ordered the following bonds be set:

• Martin, released Monday on $10,000 bond.

• Turner, released Monday on $10,000 bond.

• R. Freeze, bond set at $10,000 and remains in jail on a hold with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

• Jones, $10,000 bond, remained in jail on Tuesday morning.

• C. Freeze, out of jail on bond.

A homeowner was at the sheriff’s office Tuesday morning attempting to retrieve his stolen property, Dickerson said.

“This investigation is the result of anonymous tips from individuals in Marshall County,” the sheriff said. “As usual, individuals who provide tips to law enforcement remain anonymous and their information is kept in strict confidence.”

Dickerson reminds the public that there is a $15,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for unsolved homicides. There are four unsolved homicides outstanding in Marshall County.

Persons with tips for law enforcement regarding any criminal activity are asked to call the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at 662-252-1311 and ask to speak with investigations or with the sheriff.
