Broken insulator causes weekend power outages

A broken line insulator caused outages Sunday morning on the line serving Potts Camp and much of rural Marshall County south of Holly Springs.

According to Holly Springs Utility Department General Manager Bill Stone, customers experienced blinks and multiple outages during the early hours of Sunday morning due to a broken insulator near the intersection of Highway 7 South and Old Highway 4 West.  Crews were first called out at about 12:30 a.m. to reports of outages from Potts Camp to Hernando Road to Laws Hill.

Power was restored less than an hour later only to fail again a few hours later.

After daylight, crews discovered the broken insulator and had to interrupt power again for about 10 minutes to repair it, Stone said.

HSUD encourages the public to report any loud noises or flashes that might be electric-related to assist crews in locating these types of problems.
